Makerspace Workshops
The Makerspace hosts workshops featuring different projects throughout the year.
Wood Phone Stand
Make a custom wood phone stand to hold your phone at the perfect height for you. The workshop costs $25 per person and is open to the public (ages 12+ with parent or guardian).
Saturday, January 31, 10:00am-12:00pm
Laser-cut Pendant
Laser cut and engrave a pendant using a design of your choice from materials including wood, acrylic, or upcycled CDs. Participants should bring a design idea. If you don't have an idea in mind, don't worry - we'll have a few to choose from. The workshop costs $25 per person and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian).
Saturday, February 7, 10:00am-12:00pm
Laser Engraved LED Mirror Workshop
Laser engrave a design or photo of your choice on a 6-inch round mirror mounted in a USB-powered lighted beechwood stand. Participants should bring their own design idea to the workshop (can be a digital photo, text, or a hand-drawn design). The workshop costs $25 per person and is open to the public (ages 8+ with parent or guardian). The 3D printed mirror frame will be pre-printed. Both the mirror and the wood stand can be engraved.
Saturday, February 14, 10:00am-12:00pm
Raspberry Pi Digital Display Workshop
Need a better digital display? Learn how you can use a small, affordable Raspberry Pi computer to run a digital display and turn any TV or monitor with HDMI into a digital display. We will go through the steps needed to set it up, look at options for power and wiring, and you will leave with a microSD card with Raspberry Pi OS installed, ready for you to use for your own digital display. Raspberry Pi and monitor will be available during the workshop for set up, but you will need to buy your own Raspberry Pi, power adapter, and HDMI cable. The workshop costs $30 per person and is open to the public (ages 12+ with parent or guardian).
Saturday, February 21, 10:00am-12:00pm
Temperature and Humidity Logger Workshop
Build a small temperature and humidity logger that automatically uploads its data to your own cloud-based storage and provides charts for monitoring. We will use a Raspberry Pi Pico W, along with a small temperature and humidity sensor in a 3D printed case (all 3 provided). It can run off 5 volt USB power and uploads data through a wireless connection to your own Adafruit IO cloud storage (you will need to set up a free account). There is some soldering involved, which we can help with. The workshop costs $30 per person and is open to the public (ages 12+ with parent or guardian).
Saturday, February 28, 10:00am-1:00pm
