Makerspace Rules

  • FIRST-TIME USERS:
    • Read and sign a Makerspace Waiver Form before using the space.
    • Complete a Safety Orientation.
  • EVERY TIME UPON ARRIVAL:
Sign in at the front desk
  • Follow safety signs and directions from Makerspace staff, and be alert to activities around you.
  • Use only equipment that you have been trained to use, and do not use it in a manner for which it was not intended. Read the manual or ask staff if you have questions about use of equipment.
  • Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for each activity or room. This means safety glasses at a minimum for the Metal & Laser Lab and Woodworking Lab. Hearing protection is available, but not required. Some equipment has further safety requirements for respirators, attire, foot wear, loose hair, etc.
  • Personal bags and belongings that cannot be stored in pockets should be stored in the provided lockers.
  • No food should be consumed in the Makerspace. Drinks must be securely covered so that they cannot spill and they should not be consumed near Makerspace equipment or computers.
  • Unsafe behavior that endangers the safety of other Makerspace users or staff will not be tolerated.
  • Anyone found violating safety guidelines or misusing equipment will be reminded verbally, and may be asked to leave for the day or be banned from the Makerspace if they continue to violate the rules.
  • Makers under age 17 who are not CCC students must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver at all times.
  • Making weapons, weapon parts, or dangerous items in Makerspace is prohibited.
  • Be considerate. Alert others around you before you start a loud or dangerous activity (welding, sawing, grinding, etc.) so that they have time to get hearing protection or other appropriate PPE for the activity.
  • Do not start any jobs that cannot safely be finished before closing time. If unsure, please consult with Makerspace staff.
  • EVERY TIME BEFORE LEAVING:
    • Clean the space you were using (leave the space and equipment clean and neat for the next person).
    • Return any tools you borrowed when you are done using them. If you checked them out, check them back in at the front desk.
    • Check out at the front desk and pay for any equipment/materials you used.
