Mental Health First Aid

Our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is taught by MHFA Certified Instructors through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the MHFA course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Trauma
  • Psychosis
  • Substance Use Disorders

 

Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency - the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well. 

When you take the Mental Health First Aid course, you will learn how to apply the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan in a variety of situations.  Some of these situations might include: 

  • Panic Attacks
  • Suicidal Behaviors or Thoughts
  • Nonsuicidal Self-Injury
  • Acute Psychosis
  • Overdose or Withdrawal from Alcohol or Drug Use
  • Reaction to a Traumatic Event

Amanda Lee-Copp  Amanda Lee-Copp

Amanda, a Southern Tier native, holds an A.S. in Liberal Arts from Corning Community College and a B.S. in Counseling Psychology from Mansfield University. She's passionate about helping those dealing with trauma and mental health challenges and has supported various groups throughout her career including sexual violence survivors, LGBTQ+ youth, foster care youth, college students, and adults with serious mental health challenges. Now, Amanda specializes in guiding students through their career and transfer goals and is a trusted source of care for mental health challenges at SUNY Corning Community College. As a Mental Health Aid Facilitator, Amanda is eager to promote mental health awareness and positivity in her community.

Cody Crippen Cody Crippen

Cody is from Westfield Pa, holds an AAS in Business Administration form SUNY Corning Community College, a BS in Business Administration and a MSEd In College Student Development from Alfred University. He has worked in Higher Education for 8 years and has a passion for helping students navigate their Higher Ed Journey. With his current role being the professional live-in staff member of the Residence Hall at SUNY Corning Community College. Where he ensures all students have an enjoyable living and learning experience. By being there to assist with learning, physical health and mental health needs of the Residence Hall Community.  As a Mental Health First Aid Facilitator, Cody is excited to promote awareness of resources and break through the stigmas that exist around mental health.
