Direct Support Professional II Micro-credential 

The curriculum presented in this micro-credential aligns with the national certification offered to Direct Support Professionals through The National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). This micro-credential provides the student the opportunity to apply for Level 11 certification; successful completion of the Direct Support Level 1 micro-credential is a pre-requisite. 15 competency areas have been approved by the NADSP Board of Directors. These competency areas allow direct support professionals to meet the industry demand for quality care of the populations they serve.  Additionally, each competency area outlines specific observable skills that should be demonstrated by the direct support professional. For Level 11 certification, 100 accredited educational hours in the following competency areas are required: Evaluation and Observation, Communication, Professionalism and Ethics, and Community Inclusion and Networking.

This micro-credential aligns with requirements for the Human Services A.S. should students choose to continue their education after obtaining the micro-credential.

The Direct Support Professional II Micro-credential is 13.5 credits and comprised of the following courses:

HUSR 1040 Human Services II (3 cr.)

HUSR 1520 Introduction to Differing Abilities (3 cr.)

ENGL 1010 College Composition 1 (3 cr.)

HUSR 1581 Working with Abused Clients, Victims and Perpetrators (1.5 cr.)

HUSR 1620 Ethics for Human Services (3 cr.)
