Softball Ranked 2nd in National Preseason Poll
The SUNY Corning Community College softball team will open the 2022 season as the country’s second-ranked team, according to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Preseason Poll.
The defending national champs, Rock Valley College (Rockford, Illinois), collected seven first-place votes and 70 points to secure the No. 1 ranking in the preseason poll. SUNY Corning was second with 63, followed by Herkimer College (56 points), North Dakota State College of Science (49 points), and Rowan College South Jersey- Gloucester (42 points) to round out the top five.
SUNY Corning is coming off of one of its best seasons in program history, one that saw the Red Barons produce a 37-3 overall record in 2021 and finish as runner-ups in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. The 37 wins set a new program record, eclipsing the previous record of 36 achieved by the 2009 rendition of the Red Barons.
