Rockwell Museum Selects SUNY CCC’s Digital Dome Theater as Alley Art Project Venue
SUNY Corning Community College’s Digital Dome Theater has been selected as the venue for the Rockwell Museum’s 14th annual Alley Art Project: Worlds Collide.
The Digital Dome Theater’s interior wall – approximately 61-feet 3.5-inches in length and 7-feet 7-inches in height – will serve as the canvas for the mural design.
In a collaborative effort between the High School Learning Center (HSLC) of the Corning-Painted Post Area School District and CCC, students worked with local professional artist Tori Burdick, CCC Art Instructor Hiram Cray, HSLC Coordinator Dave Quackenbush, and the Rockwell Education staff to design the art mural. Students visited CCC’s Spencer Crest Nature and Research Center for artistic inspiration.
Painting of the mural will take place in mid-August under the guidance of Burdick, Cray, and the Rockwell Education staff. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will take place upon completion of the mural.
About the Alley Art Project: Worlds Collide Design
The mural design features a young woman and a great horned owl framed by a glowing
sunset and the deep growth of a forest. The sunset fades to a starlit night sky sparking
our human connection to our local landscape and fostering a sense of place in the
Corning community. Each student’s work is represented as a tree in the mural design,
growing together to form an interconnected forest.
