Chasing Dreams at SUNY CCC: From Baseball to Bachelors

From Batting Cages to Campus Grounds
What brought me to SUNY Corning Community College (CCC) was put simply my love and passion for baseball. I was having trouble at my previous university adjusting to not having it in my life anymore. I’ve been playing for so many years that it feel very strange to not attend practice or have games. CCC was a school I was looking to play for because Coach Skinner was recruiting me. I got back in touch with Coach Skinner during my first semester after I didn’t get an opportunity to play. He welcomed me back with open arms. He was one of the biggest factors in my decision to attend CCC. The other factors that led me to attend CCC was cost and the size of the school. I went to a relatively small NYC High school so it wouldn’t be a lot to get used to.

Transitioning to CCC: A Unique Path
My experience transferring in was great the EOP staff made me feel very welcomed and so did my teammates. It was a very different experience from the norm because usually high school students transfer into community colleges after and not into four-year universities and then on to community colleges. It was also a very simple process I applied with my high school transcript because I wasn’t going to be able to get my college transfer till it was going to be too late. I got accepted and the ball rolled from there.

Sketching Out the Future: On the Field and Off
I aspire to be a collegiate athlete for two more years, while attending a university to obtain my Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. I’m getting better as a baseball player as the months go by and working my hardest to get the grades the will get me to the next level. Success for me would be completing my Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and making six figures. If I were to get drafted to the MLB that would be amazing, but it won’t be how I measure my overall success. My life goals are the be happy and successful. Happiness to me means being healthy and not having to worry about my finances.

The Role of CCC: More than Just a College
CCC has helped me move towards those goals by having an amazing library as well as tutors for a number of subjects. I’ve used the tutors to achieve my academic goals. Coach Skinner also gave me a shot when no one else would and that's something that I’ll never forget. At CCC I got to live out one of my childhood dreams of playing baseball at the collegiate level. The wide variety of programs here at CCC have helped me plan for the future I want as well as introduce me to alternative pathways if I so chose. Transferring to CCC was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life because I grew as a person here and I could honestly say it changed my life.
