Q: When did you begin working at SUNY CCC, and why/how did you end up here?
A: I began working at SUNY CCC in January 2014. I was working at the University of Rochester Medical School in the area of pain research and teaching chemistry to undergraduates and post-baccalaureate students at that time. I was commuting a lot for work, and as I had a young family, I needed to find a suitable place to work in the Southern Tier so that I could be close to my kids. Corning CC was one of the several jobs I had applied to, and during the interview, I liked the folks and the atmosphere in the science department. I also like this area as there are plenty of things to do outdoors, and I decided to accept the offer when I received it.

Q: What classes do you teach at SUNY CCC?
A: I have taught all of the chemistry courses that are offered at SUNY CCC. However, my passion is in the areas of organic chemistry and biochemistry, and I am lucky to be able to teach those courses here.

Q: What's your favorite part about being a faculty member at SUNY CCC?
A: My favorite part of coming to work every day is when I see my students in the classroom. I enjoy teaching, interacting, helping, advising, and learning from them. It is fun to teach chemistry and to be able to do a lot of hands-on experiments with my students. There are moments when I see the fear of chemistry disappearing from the eyes and minds of students, and those instances are very valuable to me.

Q: What's been the best part of your professional career?
A: I feel blessed to have a non-linear career trajectory. I have spent a lot of time being a student, working for a non-profit, working at start-up companies, and doing research in academia and industry, and now I am finally teaching. All these experiences have molded me into the person that I am today. Teaching is my passion, and I consider it to be my calling in this life.

Q: What's one thing most people don't know about you?
A: I am not sure if I have any special skill :)

Q: What do you like to do during your free time/time outside of the classroom?
A: I enjoy hiking, going on walks with my dog, playing soccer, biking, improving my chess skills, trying out new recipes in the kitchen, wine tasting, and star gazing.
