SUNY CCC Math League Places 3rd at the 2023 NYSMATYC Competition

The New York State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) hosts their Math League Competition each year. This year 22 schools and over 100 students participated. SUNY Corning Community College's student math team proudly placed third, CCC's best showing in serval years. Cameron Jensen led the CCC team, placing fourth in the state individual rankings.

NYSMATYC is the country's oldest professional organization devoted to mathematics education at two-year colleges. It focuses on supporting mathematics teachers and students at two-year colleges across New York State through publications, awards, scholarships, and regional conferences.

In addition to CCC's team performance, Jacqueline Osburn '23 was honored with the 2022-23 NYSMATYC Excellence in Mathematics Award. The award is a prestigious recognition that considers a personal essay, two faculty recommendations, overall GPA, and grades in mathematics courses, with preference given to courses above the Calculus II level and extracurricular activities. Five awards were given out this year with cash prizes of $700 for each recipient.

In a joint statement, CCC's Math Department said, "We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students this year, especially those at the NYSMATYC competition. Cameron will return to CCC next year, and we hope for another great showing at the NYSMATYC competition. Jacqueline will continue her Mathematics journey at SUNY Binghamton, and we wish her all the best in her studies."
