Workforce Education at SUNY Corning Community College is redesigning the Non-Profit Management (NPM) series for 2025. The focus will be on leading from the middle.
Who?
The ideal candidate for the NPM is someone who has either been recently hired/promoted to a supervisory role or will be promoted soon.
What?
The topics will focus on four areas of the non-profit organization:
- Leading Self
- Leading Teams
- Leading the Business
- Leading Networks
In the Non-Profit Management program, the breakdown is as follows:
Week 1: Leading Self--Self-awareness, understanding your leadership style, leveraging strengths
Week 2: Leading Self--Thinking and acting systematically, self-control, empathy and resiliency
Week 3: Leading Self--Communication and listening skills with focus on communication "down and up" the organization hierarchy
Week 4: Leading Self--Effective business writing and speaking
Week 5: Leading Self--Decision making, recruiting and making strong hiring decisions
Week 6: Leading Teams--onboarding, interpersonal skills, delegation, influence/ negotiation, conflict resolution, flexibility, team diversity, with a focus on conflict resolution
Week 7: Leading Teams--Supervisory skills, performance management/coaching skills, managing remote employees, attention to detail (time management)
Week 8: Leading the Business--Translate the organization's strategic goals into actions, thinking and acting systematically, mission/vision/goals, reporting, leadership for team, collaboration with other teams
Week 9: Leading the Business--Budgeting 101 with a focus for “middle managers”; including grant budgets
Week 10: Leading Networks--Collaboration within/without; networking in the community and how this supports the organization

Cost: $400.00
Students may cancel 3 days or more prior to the day of class and receive a full refund. We solidify dates with instructors 3 days prior to the start of the class (or reschedule/cancel) and it is dependent upon enrollment. Cancellations with less than 3 days notice can not be refunded).
