Introduction to Drones

Students will learn about and complete hands-on in-class lab work with the top 5 autonomous drone flights apps. Students will develop, plan and program a flight mission in each app. Developed missions will be across a specified area with various waypoints and altitude changes. As part of the preflight planning process, they will learn how to factor safety, airspace restrictions, obstacles and non-participants into their flight plan.

The top 5 autonomous flight apps on the market today are:

  • DroneDeploy - Create high resolution maps, reports and 3D models
  • Pix4Dcapture - Capture RGB or thermal data for 3D models and very precise maps
  • DJI GS Pro - Create complex missions quickly for DJI drones through a concise UI
  • Litchi - Great for pre-planning and gathering quality data with DJI drones
  • Autopilot - Execute flight and camera sequences that are tough to complete manually

This 16-hour course builds upon what students have learned in previous SkyOp courses including Intro to Drones with Part 107 Test Prep and Hands-On Drone Flight Training. After completing this course, students will be ready for more in-depth training on specific applications or be able to select the one that best fits their organization’s needs.
