Tom and Barbara Blumer
Thomas and Barbara Blumer believe that the Finger Lakes region and Corning are treasures that should be available for many to enjoy. To make this happen, these treasures must be nurtured and supported. Residents of the area since 1973, the Blumers enjoy the active art community, sporting events, and the outdoor activities that come with each season.
“Neither of us expected to settle in this area,” said Tom. “We fell in love with the region, the people, and the nature of the community. It’s small, but it offers more than other small communities. We try to take advantage of all that the area has to offer.”
The Blumers consider Corning Community College among the treasures of the region and are active supporters. Tom is a Trustee, a former chair of the Board of Trustees, and currently co-chairs the Leadership Committee for the 2014 Capital Campaign for Corning Community College. Together, he and Barbara are loyal Annual Fund donors, have established a named scholarship in support of the Early Childhood Program, donated a classroom for the Early Childhood program, and strengthened CCC’s future with a planned gift through their estate.
“CCC provides broad access to higher education for a wide range of students, from those who fall into the traditional college-aged category to adult learners and people who are looking to change the direction of their careers,” said Tom. “Because the College meets the educational needs for so many people, supporting it is a wonderful opportunity for us to strategically help a significant number of the community. We believe in the mission of higher education.”
