Once Kareena Cardona turned 17, she left Puerto Rico to attend college at a private college in New York City (NYC), but decided shortly after that she would transfer to Corning Community College. Kareena has been a proud Red Baron since January 2016.
“I came to Corning Community College and fell in love with it. I love the professors here, and I realized that there is so much opportunity in this atmosphere. CCC is a close-knit school and truly inspired me to continue my education,” she shared.
In May of last year, the Red Baron graduated with the Class of 2017. When considering her options – and her love for CCC – she decided to finish the degree she started in NYC and pursued a second Associate’s degree in criminal justice, which she will earn at this year’s Commencement ceremonies. “I’m glad to have both degrees. I’m glad to have options. And I wouldn’t trade my time at CCC for anything. My goal after college though, is to become a social worker. I am going to work with children in schools,” Kareena said.
In order to achieve her goals, Kareena has decided to attend Binghamton University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in human development.
While some students might be nervous about graduating, Kareena is happily looking toward her future.
“I’m really looking forward to making a difference in the lives of others.”
