Dynamic, Ever-changing, Engaging.
SUNY Corning Community College sophomore, Anna Moretti ’20, loves the world of finance for those three reasons. According to Anna, the more you understand about finance, the more you understand about the world we live in.
But, Anna wasn’t always set on finance. In fact, she found both finance and architecture interesting as a junior in high school. The GST BOCES New Visions Academy’s Innovation, Leadership, and Business Program allowed her to explore both through shadowing opportunities. In addition, she was able to take ACE courses as part of the New Visions program, enabling her to get a jump-start on her general education requirements.
“Midway through my junior year I sat down with my guidance counselor and I realized I needed to get involved in something that would help me figure out what I really wanted to do,” said Anna. “The New Visions program afforded me a more flexible schedule than a traditional senior year. I was able to intern at a local wealth management firm in the afternoons. After that experience I knew I wanted to work in the world of business and finance.”
Finance, budgets, expenses!
Anna’s love for finance has only grown since stepping foot on the SUNY CCC campus. She is now a student trustee on the Regional Board of Trustees – a role that will allow her to learn about the ins and outs of budgets, expenses, and collaborating with people in the community on behalf of the college and its students.
“Coming to [SUNY CCC] was honestly an easy decision because I knew I would have the opportunity to get involved on campus,” said Anna. “It’s been a great experience in so many ways. All of the professors really care and want to see you succeed while you’re here and after you leave.”
Anna plans to attend a four-year school to major in finance or economics.
“I hope that through the study of economics or finance I can gain a better perspective of the world and why isolated events can have impacts that cross the globe in half a second,” said Anna.
Just into a few days of her sophomore year, Anna was excited about her classes, the upcoming cross country season, and starting a Kiwanis Circle K Chapter on campus.
“I want to just continue to learn and grow over the next two semesters, taking advantage of all of the opportunities SUNY CCC has to offer” said Anna. “I’m looking forward to gaining the knowledge I’ll need to move forward and be successful during my next step.”
