What is Surgical Technology?

A Surgical Technologist prepares the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for a surgical procedure. They prepare a sterile field using sterile techniques, assemble surgical equipment and serve as a second pair of hands during operations, passing instruments to the surgeon in anticipation of each step of the procedure.

The skillful pre-surgery preparations made by a Surgical Technologist protects patients from infections, malfunctioning equipment, and unneeded delays during procedures.

In-Demand Occupation

Surgical Technology is a much-needed occupation in the Southern Tier of New York, with opportunities for employment with all major local healthcare providers. Annual salaries for a Surgical Technologist in our area average over $50,000 with options for advancement in a specialized area, raising the expected annual salary potential to over $100,000.
