Welding Scholarship Awarded
Chris Rocchi, from Pine City, NY, is the inaugural recipient of a scholarship for SUNY CCC Welding students. Cameron Manufacturing and Design, through the Community Foundation, will offer one $4,000 scholarship per welding class to a student who lives in Chemung, Steuben, or Schuyler county and possesses the desire, dedication, and interest in furthering their education in the fields of Welding and Fabrication or Machining. The recipient is also guaranteed a job at the conclusion of the program. Chris Goll, President and CEO of Cameron, presented the scholarship to Rocchi at a ceremony on October 4, 2018, at SUNY CCC’s Academic and Workforce Development Center, (318 Madison Ave., Elmira, NY).
SUNY CCC's Welding program was developed with the input of local industry partners including Cameron Manufacturing and Design. The 450-hour program meets American Welding Society (AWS) standards and is AWS SENSE certified. Through the certification program, students earn AWS and OSHA 10 certifications, making them immediately employable.
“We want to make sure that the cost of learning these skills is not an insurmountable barrier for people who want to earn this credential,” said Goll, President and CEO of Cameron. “We are pleased to be able to offer a scholarship that covers a significant portion of the program.”
