Professor David Higgins won Best in Show in the 74th Arnot Art Museum Regional Exhibition for a large painting called, "House with Priest." His work was selected from those presented by 55 artists, who represented N.Y, Conn., Pa., Del., and Mass.
A three-time Best in Show winner of the Arnot Regional, Higgins is a professor of art at Corning Community College, where he has been teaching full-time since 1997. He is a practicing artist and is represented by the West End Gallery in Corning, N.Y. With exhibitions across the country and internationally, Higgins specializes in moody oil landscapes and is also proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, tools used to create digital paintings.
In 2013, Higgins won Best in Show at the Regional Art Exhibition at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton. In 2012, he was one of only six artists (and the only oil painter) chosen to participate in the Biennial Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, an exhibition that attracted 7,000 visitors.
The Arnot Art Museum Regional Exhibition is available for viewing through September 3. The show includes works from two college alumni, Rita Rhodes and Amelia Fais Harnas, as well as a second painting from Higgins entitled, “Tree.”
