Check Presentation

CCC presented the Food Bank of the Southern Tier with a donation from an event that raised awareness and funds.

Drs. Katherine P. Douglas, president of Corning Community College, and Donna Moore Powers, professor and chair of the Sustainability Committee at Corning Community College (CCC), presented Randi Quackenbush, Community Engagement Coordinator for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, with a check for $1024, the proceeds from the third annual Hunger Lunch today at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
The event is held each year to raise awareness of hunger issues locally and internationally. This year, the Sustainability Committee of Corning Community College sponsored a simple vegan lunch of locally grown beans and organic brown rice for members of the College campus and the community. Organized by 40 volunteers from around the campus, more than 340 people supported the event, all of whom were encouraged to bring their own bowls and forks to reduce the overall waste that day.

Event quotables:

“Corning Community College is an extremely caring community of individuals; this is something I’ve known about CCC since the day I interviewed here in 2000” – Dr. Donna Moore Powers (Event organizer)

“Community is quite literally our middle name at CCC, and events like this serve to highlight our commitment to organizations like the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and the great work they do in our area.” – Dr. Katherine P. Douglas (CCC President)

“One of our greatest challenges at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier is to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in the Southern Tier; we are so grateful that the hunger lunch at CCC helps us in accomplishing that goal.” – Natasha Thompson (President & CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier)
