Albany just announced that our Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) is one of three Upstate Revitalization Funds award winners. Our region will receive a total of $500 million, $100 million a year for the next five years.
This affirmation for the region markedly increases the College's position to receive full funding for its grant application for a Health Education Center in downtown Corning. CCC looks forward to working with our REDC, the City of Corning and our community partners to build a vibrant downtown presence with our new Health and Education Center.
CCC's state-of-the-art Health Education Center will empower the College to leverage an employment growth opportunity for students wishing to pursue a variety of careers in healthcare. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare industry represents a substantial employment growth area as it is expected to grow by more than 20 percent in the next five years in Upstate New York and throughout the United States.
CCC’s proposed Health Education Center is expected to be a complimentary project to the redevelopment effort planned for the prior Corning Hospital site at the intersection of Denison Parkway and Chemung Street. These combined development projects fully support the City of Corning’s Comprehensive Plan and revitalization effort for the Denison Parkway Streetscape.
