"What’s not to love? Today I started my day with King George I, George Frideric Handel, and dance music commissioned for an evening of entertainment on the King’s barge as it floated along the River Thames. By noon, I was singing Ubi caritas et amor, an ancient chant that celebrates love and charity. 1:00 found me in the piano keyboard lab teaching the 12 bar blues and by 2:15 I was teaching American popular music of the post WWII era. Have you ever heard Hound Dog as recorded by Big Mama Thornton? She was the original. Elvis recorded his version three years later.
Generation after generation, from ancient Latin chants to 20th century R&B, music enhances our lives and helps us to share thoughts and emotions that are not always easily expressed through words alone. (However, I readily admit that “You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog” resonates pretty well even without melody and rhythm added.) My point is this: life is better with music. It represents every age, every continent, and every cultural group. It comes in all shapes and sizes. I’m sure you can find just the right fit for you."
