A Hunger Lunch benefiting the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
To raise awareness of hunger issues locally and nationally, the Sustainability Committee of Corning Community College is sponsoring a simple lunch of beans and rice for members of the College Campus and the Community. Even though we live in a developed country statistics show that more and more people are food insecure, not knowing where the next meals will come from. In 2010, 32.6 million adults and 16.2 million children lived in food insecure households. Since 2006, more and more people are seeking out local food pantries for emergency provisions. In addition, the Sustainability Committee will raise awareness of the nutritional value, inexpensive cost, and will provide simple recipes that will educate our Community on how to sustain their family on a simple, nutritious meal of beans and rice.
Tickets for the Hunger Lunch may be purchased ahead of time for $3.00 and include a raffle ticket for a hand crafted wreath created by History Professor, Sky Moss. Other unique sustainable gifts will also be raffled. Please call 962-9375 for tickets. The day of the event, a bowl of rice and beans may be purchased for $3.00. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bowls and forks to reduce the overall waste that day. All profits will be donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
