Preparatory reading improvement course to teach effective comprehension sstrategies for success with expository reading. Students apply active reading to a range of texts, learn to monitor comprehension, expand vocabulary, paraphrase main points, answer literal and application questions and compare ideas in different texts on a topic. Throughout, they connect ideas to their own experiences or observations. Empasis on improving fluency, confidence, and self-awareness as readers. Students with passing grades of C or better continue to READ 0880. (3 eq. cr. hrs.) (Fall, Spring). Prerequisite: Placement by assessment. Grading: A,B,C,F. Does not fulfill degree or program requirements.
