2026 Eileen M. Collins '76 Professional Achievement Award Recipient
Colleen L. (Borden) Zogby, MSN, FNP-C, ACHPN, Ph.D. credits Corning Community College, where she graduated in 1985, as the foundation of her nursing career. She began as a floor nurse in orthopedics at Crouse Irving Hospital, later moving into the intensive care unit and operating room at Upstate Medical Center. During this time, she was commissioned in the U.S. Army Reserve Nurse Corps, serving on active duty during Desert Storm and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Penn State University with Army support.
Her career took on deeper meaning while caring for her husband through his long illness with cancer, all while raising three young sons. Following his passing, she returned to PACU nursing and, at age 50, earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Le Moyne College in 2018. She joined the palliative care team at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse and completed a Master of Science in Palliative Care at the University of Maryland in 2021. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in November 2025, with research exploring burnout among hospital-based palliative care nurse practitioners. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Le Moyne College, sharing her expertise with the next generation of nursing professionals.
Beyond her clinical and academic work, Colleen has participated in five medical mission trips to Ghana, serves as a founding member and special adviser to the Exon20 EGFR/HER2 advocacy group, and has been an invited speaker for cancer awareness programs. She has published peer-reviewed articles on clinician burnout and is active in numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
