Red, airplane-shaped badge featuring a line-art illustration of an astronaut floating beside a jet aircraft. The astronaut holds tools and wears a suit with patches, while the plane displays the text “1957” and “Corning Community College.” Three clear plastic fasteners are visible, attaching the layered red-and-white design on a plain white background.Learn how to solder and make your own light-up CCC Mascot Badge.

This workshop has been provided free of charge to the public at the Twin Tiers Mini Maker Faire, CCC STEM Day, Full STEAHM Ahead, and other events. It takes about 15 minutes for someone to create this badge with no prior soldering experience. We do ask that young children have a grown-up help them with the soldering if needed.

We can provide the equipment and all of the materials to run this workshop at your school or organization, but we do need a space and time that allows for setting up and breaking down the equipment, easy access to electrical outlets, and a few volunteers to help with the workshop. The soldering irons are hot (about 750 degrees Fahrenheit) and our solder, while lead-free, contains flux which produces fumes that are toxic. We filter the air with fume extractors, but participants should make sure that fumes are being drawn away from their faces.

If you would like to have this event at your school or organization, please email DJ Dates (dates@corning-cc.edu).
