  • notarize residency forms

The Office of Continuing Education also assists students who would like to earn college credit for prior learning.  If you have knowledge that applies to your CCC program--no matter how you learned it, you may be able to receive credit.  At least 30 credits from CCC are required to earn a degree from us.

There are a number of ways to earn credit through assessment of prior learning.  These methods include:

Credit by Exam
  • CLEP (College Level Examination Program) a multiple choice test available on a variety of subjects
  • DSST  also a multiple choice test available on a variety of subjects
  • Excelsior College examination program
  • Advanced Placement (AP) exams from high school
  • Corning Community College challenge exams
Credit for Military Training and Job-related Trainings

Some military trainings and industry sponsored trainings have been evaluated for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE).  If so, then you are eligible to receive the credit for these trainings.  To earn credit, you will need to supply the following to the Office of Admissions:

  • A copy of your military transcript
  • A copy of your official ACE-evaluated training
Special Assessment of Life/Work Learning

If you are not eligible for credit through the avenues listed above, don’t do well on standardized tests, have extreme test anxiety, find that your knowledge doesn’t fit into any of the categories listed above, but you still think you have college-level learning, then you might want to consider requesting credit through Special Assessment of Life/work Learning.

You will compile a portfolio which describes and documents your college-level skills and knowledge.

  • All portfolios include an autobiographical essay, your resume, and information supporting your learning
  • That information might include: job descriptions, samples of completed projects, certificate, letters of documentation, and other pertinent information.
  • The cost of completing this process is $75 per credit for all credit you receive.
  • Your portfolio will be reviewed and evaluated by the appropriate faculty at CCC.
  • We offer convenient appointments to help you compile your portfolio. Call the Office of Continuing Education to register for an appointment!
